Forbes updates their recent list of the top 40 richest Filipinos for the year 2011. Philippine
economy grew only 4.9 percent in the 1st quarter of this year partly
due to a decrease in trade and lower infrastructure spending by the
government, of from 8.4 percent in 2010, but the country's stock market
is booming. Composite stock index is up 27 percent since last year,
surpassing the 2007 benchmark. This raised the fate of the richest in
the country to an all time high. They are collectively worth 34 billion
dollars, up from last year's 22.8 billion dollars.

32 wealthy business tycoons become richer in the Philippines. For the 4th consecutive year Henry Sy
remains the richest man in the Philippines with a net worth of
7.2 billion dollars, up from 5
billion dollars year ago. The highest top notcher in percentage terms is
a former
trade minister Roberto Ongpin, whose wealth jumped more than 4 fold to
1.3 billion dollars. Much of that gain was due to an increase in his
stocks
in listed Atok-Big Wedge mining, although Ongpin said the company's
stock price overinflates value.
The overall number of billionaires in the Philippines has more than doubled this year to
11-a record haul. Among the newly minted millionaires is the port
operator Enrique Razon Jr., who saw his net worth jumped to $ 1.6
billion from $ 975 million last year. Just two of luck to decline this
year, either because better understand their assets and not because
their companies perform poorly.
Among the four newcomers Jose Antonio, founder of high-end property
developer Century Properties; Jacinto Ng Sr., founder of the biscuit
maker Rebisco; 34-year-Edgar Sia II, the youngest on the list, and Tony Tan of Caktiong who
sells his fast-growing food chain, Jollibee,.
Minimum of 85 million dollars needed to make the list this year, up from last
year's 50 million dollars
Four of the 2010 did not make the cut, including Lourdes Montinola,
whose family owns 41% of Far Eastern University, and Jesus Tambunting,
which controls the Planters Development Bank. The advantage they could
not match the performance of others on the list of stars.
